Yesterday Christa and I met up with two other girls from our program, Chelsea and Sam, in an attempt to go to church. In Argentina when a church website says there is a service at 12:30 and one at 7, it is not guaranteed that this is true. We missed the church service so decided to go to the Casa Rosada or the government building for a free tour. Here we say where President Christina Fernandez de Kirchner does business. This is also where Evita gave her famous speeches. Our tour guide gave the tour in both English and Spanish but all of us agreed that his Spanish was easier to understand (even to us Americans).
After this we went to San Telmo, where every Sunday there is a huge flea market with hundreds of vendors and thousands of visitors (many of whom are americans). They have everything from clothes to Mate mugs (still have yet to try mate). There are also very entertaining street performers: mimes, bands, etc.
Starbucks awaited us at the end of the flea market. It was very hot and a cold iced tea was exactly what all of us needed.
Christa and I did make it to church (the same one we went to last weekend). The worship is great, but the sermons are a little long and confusing. Next weekend I think I'll try another church.
Today, after my first day of classes (Tango and Grammar-more about classes later this week), I spent most of the night trying to rework my schedule with classes that will count toward my Spanish major, which was a little stressful. After listening to some Hillsong and other worship music I feel much better and know that God has a plan for my journey here and even if I dont get to take all the classes I want to, I know I will learn so much! Please pray that Christa and I can figure out our schedules and embrace the culture down here.
Un beso,
Bot
