Today I had the opportunity to take a day-trip to Uruguay with Christa's family. Its weird that in Argentina you can take a day-trip to another country (getting 4 new stamps in my passport!) The day started early with an 830am boat ride (that was like an hour long). We mostly just slept on the boat because after going to sleep after 2am due to the energy I had after playing soccer last night (scored 2 goals btw) I was exhausted.
Our destination: Colonia. This is a town that has been preserved in its original form since the 18th century. In our all-Spanish tour Christa and I found out that this town used to be half governed by Buenos Aires and half by either Brazil or Uruguay (I forget what the guide said). Also, today only 10 families total live in the historical part of Colonia. Anyway, most of the day was spent walking around and eventually eating chivito, which is basically a thin slice of steak with ham and cheese and a sunny side up egg. Sound like a weird combo and kind of looks gross but it was delicious!
The rest of the day we spent walking, climbing trees and taking pictures. There was a lighthouse with a great view (first pic below) Here are some other pictures we took:
After a wonderful day in Colonia, we went to Cafe Tortoni which is a famous cafe that has tango shows. The food was definitely not good (probably the worst pizza Ive had in my life) but the tango show was great. Im so glad I have the chance to learn tango here because it really is a beautiful dance and tells a story from start to finish (I have a video that Im going to try to post on my facebook but the internet is being slow so I cant load it here). Now I just need to learn to relax so that I can tango by July 2nd (when my final is for tango) :-P
