Buen Dia!
One of my recent annoyances at technology is that it's taking over. I used to be able to go to Borders or Barnes and Noble just to browse books. Now most everything needs to be ordered online and many chain and small bookstores and headed in the direction of everything being electronic. I just find it so great to hold a good book in my hands and read on planes, during free time, on the beach, etc.
Hope still exists though for the Argentines! There are bookstores everywhere! (More to come following the next paragraph)
Today after an exhausting and stressful day of figuring out what classes I can take and signing a commitment form that requires us to speak only in Spanish while in academic buildings or on trips with CIEE (this is a good thing), Christa and I decided to go to a cafe for a snack (and Quilmes-the light beer of Argentina-pretty much we decided we didnt like it or hate it. kind of tasted like gingerale/seltzer). It was still early, like 530, so we took a walk down one of the main "calles" (streets) called Santa Fe. There were lots of shops (for like a mile just shopping of all kind).
In the midst of the shops was a bookstore that we went into on a whim. It turned out that it was HUGE and was an old theatre! It was the most beautiful bookstore I've ever gone into (Christa has more pictures, but I'm posting one I stole from the Internet since of course I didnt have my camera). The stage had been turned into a cafe and there were quiet reading spaces in the balcony and those side seats that are in theatres. So cool! I will have to stock up on Argentine literature here when I take my Argentine fiction class (if that class works with my schedule)
Now I am at my homestay, where I will probably spend the night reading :-) My host family is out for a relatives birthday so I have the whole house to myself.
Ciao!

this is sooooo cool!!! it's like my two favorite things wrapped up in one! theater and literature! sigh. you seem to be having so much fun! i hope you have a super cool semester! <3
